Tail Glider is a mobile game made in Unity. Players compete against other pilots in a galaxy-wide sporting event where they operate unique spacecraft in a 3D-snake-type territory control game.

My contributions include:

  • Working with product leads to go from vision to initial wireframing.

  • Working with other designers during style exploration and while creating Game UI.

  • Creating user journey maps and menu prototypes.

  • Responding to playtest feedback in order to make the game easier to understand and play.

    • Solution: Replaced tutorial mode with an list of gameplay and controls explanations.

      • Problem: Reading instructions while flying was uncomfortable.

      • Problem: Players would often forget only one thing and didn’t want to leave a game in-progress to replay an entire tutorial.

  • Collaborating with product and designers to make the game easier to learn.

    • Solution: Added two controls to gameplay that lerp to touch and shrink down when under a finger.

      • Problem: Players would often want to jump straight into gameplay and assume single-finger controls.

  • Working with game designers and engineers to categorize and organize gameplay systems.

  • Implementing UI within Unity

  • Programming ship abilities and adjusting values to ensure gameplay loops matched definitions and expectations.
